Callie has taken to carrying around the play silverware and dishes. She will drop them to find another toy but comes back to them. It's kind of funny to watch her try to crawl with them. She won't unclench her hands so that complicates things a little bit.
We took a leaf out of the Hollands book and decided to start having some adventures with the girls. Since is is still 100+ degrees outside we sweat a lot but they have fun and Kenna finally knows what hiking is. She likes to collect leaves and rocks and tree fruit. She does not like being sweaty. She usually strips down buck naked for the car ride home. I can't blame her. I would too but that would be weird. One of the first adventures required her to hike through some very tall weeds. She didn't know what to do and kept trying to lift her leg high enough to step over it before we told her she could just walk through it. She still walked over it.
Here she is puzzling over how to get through it...
triumphant...
balance beaming...
Callie giggled when she touched the grass...
but got sick of the stroller so Nate gave her a piggy back.
Callie still doesn't walk. She will push objects around to help her walk, but she often does this on her knees. She has figured out how to open the cupboards and will clean out whatever she finds in there. She is also good at raiding the dishwasher if it is left open.
She has figured out hats and thinks that anything she can put on her head is a hat...purses, bowls, rattles, etc.
Kenna loves to take Callie for rides on her power wheel. Callie is exhilarated for about 2 minutes before she bursts into tears.
Kenna had her first away sleep over with Jenna. She was so excited she put her jammies and slippers on about an hour before it was time to go. Jenna, Kenna and Bo got to bunk down in the toy room together and the sleepover lasted until about 8 o'clock when the lights went out and Kenna decided it was too dark and she wanted to come home. We figured it would happen and we're glad she got to have fun.
Nate made homemade bread with a little supervision and is now an expert. Kenna had a lot of fun punching down the dough but couldn't care less about eating the bread. It was delicious.
Callie still runs clean up on any food left on Kenna's little table. We had to start making sure Kenna cleans up after herself ever since I came out to find Callie eat Kenna's leftover frosted flakes, milk and all.
A real hat.
Olives on a stick.
Finally, Kenna had her first day of preschool on Tuesday. She eats lunch there and was super excited to have her own lunch box. We are part of a co-op so preschool will be at our house a few times this year and Kenna is really excited for that. I think she was a little disappointed when she had to go to someone else house this week, but she still had fun.
