A funny tid bit

So I have the answer to the long pondered question..."Where do babies come from?" McKenzie actually got the answer to this question from one of her little kindergarten rug rats. I will quote from her email.

"I was in a kindergarten class this morning and one of the the girls came up to me and asked, "did you eat too much?" I just looked at her for a minute laughing and then she asked the follow up "Is that how your baby got in there?"

So beware next time you are at a buffet or sitting down for a big Sunday dinner... You might be pregnant by the time you finish dessert.

Cribs Part Deux

We finally finished cleaning the blasted house. Enjoy. Also - here is the long awaited picture of Kenzie and kiddo.............................Only a couple of months left of this nonsense.

The Verdict Is In...

Our baby officially has a gender. You probably will not be able to tell from the picture, but it is a girl and these are the things that Kenzie bought it within an hour of finding out. I am in serious trouble - we have known the gender of the bambino for less than a day and I am already out about fifty bucks. If this continues I will be asking Obama for a bailout pretty soon.

In spreading the news to our family, I figured that it was probably easiest to send a text message to all the people rather than calling them all. I was pretty blunt about the whole thing and just wrote "girl". Everyone began sending congratulation texts right away except our good newbie friend to the family Rob. Now to fully understand what I am about to tell you, you will have to understand that I frequently send insults via texts to his phone (my favorite being "slutbag"... what a great word). When Rob got the message he immediately texted back to me, "Homo". I don't think he understood that I was sharing the gender of the baby, rather he was thinking that I was insulting him. It made me realize I need to rethink my relationship with him and maybe send him some nice text messages every once in a while. Or I guess I should send out "its a girl" next time I go through this whole kid thing.... Anyway he got the message and redacted his homo comment. Good times though.

Kenzie and I are excited to be parents, even if we are adding an 8th girl to the family...

For the record, we did go shopping. Nate picked out the polka dotted dress and the Peter Cotton Tail toy. He was very excited and even carried them around the store. It was kind of funny though because he saw the dress he wanted and picked up the first one on the rack (size 9 months). I told him that wouldn't work because it was too big. His answer was "who cares." I further explained that it would be snowing before the baby could wear the sleeveless, pink dress with strawberries on it. He put it back and picked out another dress in the right size. I think he is pretty excited.

Also, while we were waiting in the doctor's office for our appointment, we watch a small boy run laps around the place while his parents tried to make him hold still. It was at this point that Nate decided he may rather have a girl.

The Joys of Home Ownership

We made a stupid decision this weekend. I guess we have watched too much HGTV or something. The carpet in the living room of our newly acquired home had fallen prey to over ten years of dog, children, and birds and the stankiness was more than I could handle. Stanley Steamer did battle with the carpet, and after an extra $100 dollar sanitizer spray from the Steamer men, the carpet was still the winner. So we decided to oust it. We went to the Home Depot (where 3 employees actually recognized us and asked us how the new house was coming) and we got DuPont laminate hardwood floor. It was the plank stuff. The internet said that it would only take about 4-6 hours. Stupid internet. I got home from work on Friday and we started ripping up the old smelly carpet. It took the majority of the evening to do so and we made a couple dumpster runs to our old apartment to get rid of the 10 heavy duty garbage bags full of old carpet.
Then the real fun began. We started laying and cutting and snapping and banging and hitting and pushing and heaving and twisting and bending….. I started at about 8 in the morning and called it quits at 7 at night. We went to church the next morning and when I got home I finished up the little we had left (ox in the myer I guess). Here are a few pics of our handiwork. We still have the trim to do but we got a ton done and we are happy with the stink free flooring!

In other news, I got word that I passed my certification test for work. There was not a whole lot of pressure to do so, if I didn’t pass it after three tries I had to pay back the cost of certification classes (10K) and all the moving expenses they had paid for me. Luckily I passed it on the first try. I got a 97%, which apparently is the best that anybody has gotten in my team of six people. My boss got an 87% on the same test. I get to keep my job and I am starting to learn a lot and get my hands into the world of building hospitals in computers.

Things are great in Richmond. We go in for another sneak peek of our kiddo this Friday to find out if the blasted thing is a boy or a girl. Kenzie hit the official 6 month mark and is looking fantastic. We are excited to find out what the little one is. We will keep you posted.

Moooooving In

It's a Dud

So after all the anticipation...we still have no answer. Our baby did not cooperate at all with the technician and remained face down for the entire ultrasound. She couldn't even get all the shots of the baby she needed and apparently she is the best one there. I was very disappointed and will admit that I teared up a little bit. I feel really stupid about it, but I guess I can blame it on the pregnancy. From what she did see, she said the baby looked healthy. Anyway, we try again in two weeks and hopefully we will have an answer then. I would hate to be mad at the baby before it is even born :)

On a side note, I told my dad the baby did not cooperate and he said, "Just wait until it is a teenager." Nate and I got a good laugh out of that.

I guess I may as well say something about the house while I'm at it. It is great. We got the ducts and carpets cleaned today and we spent a lot of time cleaning the kitchen. It was disgusting! I have never seen so much slime in a fridge or so much dust on blinds and the tops of cabinets. We move in tomorrow. Anyway, we're not sleeping there tonight, but we will put up a new post with more details and some pictures soon.

Our Last Weekend as Non-Homeowners

We decided the anticipation of moving into our house on Thursday would be too much to bear if we spent the weekend in Richmond, so we decided to go up to Delaware on Thursday night. We had a great time and ate lots of girl scout cookies. Apparently the day before we got there Nancy bought the lucky girl scout who knocked on her door out of thin mints and those caramel cookie things. They were delicious and I wish I had stolen a box to bring back with me.

On Friday, Alli had her birthday party. When we saw her that morning she informed us it was her birthday, even though her birthday had been on Monday and she had gone to a family party that day. I wonder if she spent all week saying it was her birthday... That evening she had a dress-up tea party with all her friends. We didn't go, but we hear the party was a big success. That night Nate and I "chef-ed." We made shish kabobs with a bunch of fresh fruit and this delicious fruit dip for dessert. The Slaughs joined us and we spent the evening stuffing ourselves.

Saturday morning Nate woke up to a very great surprise. I grabbed his hand and put it on my stomach and he got to feel the baby kick for the very first time! There was a huge encore later that morning when I think that baby tried to kick its way out of my stomach. Nate was very excited and started laughing when he felt it kick again. The baby has been very active lately and it feels really weird, kind of like giant air bubbles in my stomach. Later that day we helped Nancy buy a new computer. Hers was a dinosaur and ran very, very slowly. Nate brought it home with us so he could do all the technical stuff like move her pictures onto the new computer and download outlook. He may decide to hold it ransom when she tried to pick it up next Sunday. He has grown very fond of it.

We ended up taking off after dinner on Saturday night because the weather channel was forecasting snow late that night and into Sunday morning. The driving time home from Delaware triples in bad weather and we didn't want to spend 12 hours sitting in the car on Sunday. It turns out it is a good thing we left when we did. It is currently snowing here in Richmond and the weather people say we are supposed to get 8-12 inches tonight. We are both hoping that is the case and that we will be off work tomorrow.

So, that is it. This will be our last blog post before we buy our house. Thursday is a big day for us. We close at 9 am and then head to our doctor's appointment at 3 pm to find out whether we're having a baby or a kangaroo.
