It has been a week since we got back and we are just now settling down and life is getting back to normal. We had a fabulous time out in Utah and I really enjoyed some time off work. It had been about 6 months since the last time I burned a week of vacation time and the last time I spent it all in the NICU with Callie anyway so it had been a long time since we really had a true vacation.
We got to spend a lot of time with both families, which won't be the case for too much longer. My parents are finishing up their last couple of months on a mission, so after that we will only have one family left to visit in Utah. We started the trip off right, with a trip to Rodezios.
And here is an insight into the ineptitude of fathers. While at the restaurant, Kenna had a bit of an accident and needed new pants. Kenzie handed me the keys and told me that they were in her bag. I went out, grabbed the bag in question, and then returned with a little pair of pink pants. Turns out that they belonged to Callie. So I went out again and attempted to retrieve the pants. I found the pink pair and returned again. This time I was informed that what I was holding were "leggings" and couldn't be worn without something over top. I returned a third time and found the correct pair. It was at that moment that I realized that I shouldn't be mad at Kenzie when she can't figure out how to do something on the computer or on the internet because I can't even get pants on my kid without three tries.
Kenna got right to business with Gramma Nancy and demanded a trip to build a bear. It was a smashing success and she picked out a floppy bunny and pink backpack which she wore all week long. This included our Sunday trip to my parents church.
Easter morning was a hit and Kenna had a blast running around the house with the missionaries finding all the eggs. Her breakfast that morning consisted of jelly beans, m&ms, and other assorted chocolate. It was a fabulous morning hanging out with family and then we headed to church with my parents.
We headed up to Kenzie's family ward afterward where we attempted to have Kenna and Callie make it another sacrament meeting, but that didn't happen. About ten minutes in, Callie had a meltdown so I took her into the foyer and Kenna came marching out of the chapel and told me "this church is too long. Let's go" So we made it thirty minutes and headed off to Gramma Dawnene's house for dinner and another egg hunt. Easter was fantastic.
The next few days were spent with trips to Cafe Rio, shopping for the ladies, and midweek we ventured all the way to Boise with my mom to visit my grandma. She was a very gracious host and arranged for us to see most of my cousins, aunts, and uncles that are up in Boise.
Grandma or Anna bought Kenna her first fishing pole and we had a blast testing it out at a local lake. After about a half hour without a single bite, we got a bit disheartened when we say a duck dive into the water and gulp down a fish right in front of us. We did happen to find some good rocks to throw into the lake and Kenna got to play with dirt and mud for an hour or two.
I got to venture out one day and play a round of golf with my dad and my father-in-law. Me and Brig teamed up against my dad and we managed to tie him up at the last hole. We went into overtime and we ended up losing to my dads amazing putting. It was a wonderful day golfing and the weather was really pretty.
We also ventured up to This is the Place with both sets of parents and had a good time hanging out with the pioneers. Kenna rode the train, rode a horse, panned for gold, and played in the pioneer park full of small houses. She thinks that place is the coolest in the world and loves hanging out with Gramma and Grandpa there.
One day when we ventured all the way down to Provo and met up with Brad, Erica, and their clan. The girls were all a little nervous about actually playing with one another in person. They had skyped a few hundred times and would even show each other toys over the internet, but the real thing was way scarier. They took about 10 minutes to warm up to each other and then we didn't see Kenna the rest of the time at their house. I wish that they lived closer because I am sure that the girls would be best friends. It was lots of fun to see Brad and Erica.
The rest of the week was spent playing games, eating at Cafe Rio way too much, shopping for the ladies, and hanging out.
We got family pictures taken while we were out there, and they turned out great. I already posted them on facebook, but here they are just in case you missed them.
