It has been business as usual up in our house. We ventured up to Delaware over the Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed a great stay at the Hotel De’Winn with some of the Winn clan. It was a great trip and the highlight was definitely spending copious amounts of time with my sister Kristi who was coming out of surgery and coked up on drugs. She was very loopy and sleepy for a couple of days and Kenzie and I had fun talking to her.
Other than that trip, our life has been very normal. Day in and day out we just do our thing. The most interesting thing in my life is a theory that I have been working on. It is about my wife. It is based on reasonable evidence that has been weighed scientifically and I have concluded that my theory is the only thing that can explain it. It is: Pregnancy has driven my wife to quit her job and sleep all day.
Here is the preponderance of evidence against her. When I wake up I usually shower and dress quietly because Kenzie doesn’t have to be at “work” until 9. So I get all ready and then bend down and kiss Kenzie on the cheek to tell her goodbye. And there she sleeps, all sprawled out and looking very comfortable sleeping in while I go to work. I slave away all day trying to make ends meet and finally return home around 5 every day. I get home at 5:20 or 5:25 and there is Kenzie, in the same spot I left her. She is usually just snoozing away and when I come in she half-wakes up and asks me how my day was.
Now she will tell you that she usually gets home from this imaginary “work” place at 3:30 and just naps a bit because she is “tired” from being “pregnant”, but I know the truth. I know that she just sleeps all day, maybe waking up at 11:00 to watch As The World Turns or All My Children, then returning to bed until I get home. The only hole in my theory is that the company that hires her keeps paying her – but maybe she has them fooled too. So now I am putting my theory out there on the web and it will be forever immortalized and the conspiracy theorists can affirm my suspicion.

A BBQ Turned Baby Shower
So there I was. It was a normal Saturday afternoon. Kenzie and I were going to a work BBQ that had been planned for about 2 months. We showed up and BOOM - it turned out to be a baby shower for McKenzie and me. I really did not expect it, especially since I have only been working there since January, but it turns out the people I work with are even more fun and better people than I thought. We had a great time playing all sorts of baby related games. They had the melted candy bar that looked like poo in diapers, the taste the babyfood game and try to guess what it is, all sorts of fun stuff. And of course there were lots of presents.

We are very lucky to have so many people helping us start our life with this new baby. For the first time, I felt our baby kick in Kenzie's tummy on both ends. I felt her fists or something kicking into her ribs and felt her legs on the bottom of her belly. I really think we should name her Joey for how much she kicks her mommy.
Kenzie has had some funny occurances with kids at work. One of the kids asked her if her baby was going to be brown. I will certainly have some questions if she is. Another kid asked her how she got pregnant. She told him to ask his parents.
In other news I installed a ceiling fan this weekend! I am becoming quite the handiman. I was actually terrified because I have never done anything electrical but I shut off the power using the circut breaker and called Kenzie's dad to get some advice. He told me all I needed to know, including helpful hints about "not really needing to turn off the circut breaker before you do it" and "getting shocked once or twice is good for you - it teaches you all you need to know about electricity". Man I am glad I have him around. How many other fathers out there can remember the exact moment they got electricity in their own home.....
But the fan works and doesn't shake. Mission accomplished. Someday I will have the guts to install a fan with the power on......
