Let me set the stage. Kenna was up early on a Saturday and so we decided we would attempt to take a family nap that afternoon. After I laid in bed for 15 minutes getting kicked and tapped by my 2 year old, I decided that I would let Kenzie sleep and I would watch the kid. We went out into the family room and I asked Kenna what she wanted to do. She said she wanted some goldfish. I thought that sounded like a fun plan so we got in the car and headed off to Petsmart. Kenna got very excited when I told her that she was getting her very first pet.
We picked out rocks, a fish bowl, and most importantly, the fish. Kenna was so excited and held the little plastic cup very carefully the entire way home. She decided to name the fish Henry. I am not exactly sure why she chose that name, but she insisted. We got home and set up his new bowl with the hot pink plant that she picked out and in he went. She was very happy and was excited to feed him breakfast with Mommy every morning. Kenzie slept through all of this.
When she got up, I told Kenna to go and show her the new goldfish. Kenna was very excited and took her hand and led Kenzie to the see the new goldfish. I put the fish bowl on the counter right next to the sink, which happens to be right next to Kenna’s little lunch table. And wouldn’t you know that Kenna had a few goldfish left on her plate from her lunch. Kenzie was still a little groggy (probably because she had only been awake for 2 seconds before Kenna got to her) and so she saw the plate full of goldfish on Kenna’s table and said “Oh I see. You have a lot of goldfish.” Kenna went on her merry way and Kenzie failed notice the gallon fish bowl on the counter. I thought I would have some fun so I asked her what she thought of the goldfish. She said “Oh that’s fine. Did she eat something healthy too?” I told her to go look again. She went over and stared down at the plate and couldn’t figure out what I was talking about. Finally, she looked up and saw Henry. She laughed pretty hard after she processed that we actually own a fish.
Kenzie was at the gym later that week and a bunch of the moms were picking up their kids from the fun club. Kenzie was chatting with one of them and remarked that the last time that she took a nap she woke up to a husband that had bought a fish for her kid. A mom next to her remarked that she took a nap once and woke up to a kitten in her house. Apparently I am less of a worry than most husbands, although I must admit that it would have been a cat if Kenzie wasn’t allergic. Oh well.
The past couple of weeks have been fantastic. Anna came for a visit which was awesome. Kenna loves her so much and Kenzie and I like her visits a lot too. We had fun introducing her to Texas BBQ, playing at the park, and catching up on shows. Kenna is very lucky to have so many Young’s visit her all the time.
We also had a visit from Cyle and Athena a few weeks ago, had a sickness move through our home and get shared with the entire family, played in a church ball game where Jarom got punched and verbally abused, went to the gym a lot, cooked some interesting food, and watched the Bachelor (don’t judge me), read more Olivia and Fancy Nancy than any adult ever should, played hide and seek, had a picnic at the park when it was 40 degrees, played “sleepwalk” at the park with Kenna another day, and all sorts of other things. Life is good. Texas is growing on us. Kenna is growing on us too.
